Hi Bill,
That’s a great story, I guess you ended up spending more that you wanted, although maybe not if the drinks in the union were subsidised. Did you drink them separately or ask for an extra glass and mix them?

I used to drink light and bitter in London in the early 60s. Then I went to Newcastle University. On my first trip to the Union, to the MEN’S BAR!!!!, I figured out the beer had different names and I figured out what to ask for: a pint of Amber and Ex (Exhibition), please. I ended up with two pints! A pint glass of Exhibition and a pint bottle of Amber ale!

Hi Smith,

Thanks for sharing that, its great to think it is still a popular choice of drink, I wonder if other pubs in London apart from Youngs still serve it. I think I know the hand right by the common I believe. Next time I am in London I will either try and get to Wimbledon or seek out another Youngs pub and order myself a light and bitter.
