Hi Colin,

I am glad I wasn't there when a decent pint was not available, must have been a nightmare. Well done CAMRA for sorting that mess out.

Although I have a love for real ale, I do embrace the numerous hops that are coming on the scene. The craft beer industry is coming up with some great and exciting beers, and I for one love that.

Fining is used to clarify a beer, and some of the substances used for this are questionable. However although many types of beer still use finings, some don't.

I totally agree with you about chilling a beer too much, no one wants a good ale chilled with in an inch of its life. I drink mine at room temperature, or very close to it, that includes Hazy Jane.

Thanks

Get a life, Rob. I am an 80 year old real ale drinker. Many years ago a decent pint became unavailable and for several years the choice was between Watneys Red Barrel, Whitbread Tankard or some other tasteless carbonated, pasteurised excuse for beer, served cold, of course. Hence CAMRA. More recently the beer scene in the USA has introduced us to Citra style hops, which has transformed British brewing. “Hazy” beer, or lazy, as I call it, simply misses out on one of the essential processes in brewing; fining. Carbonation and chilling ( as in “craft” ) destroys the real taste. A simple test is to drink any beer at room temperature. Try this with Hazy Jane.
