Butcombe Brewery

Butcombe Brewery was founded in 1978 by Simon Whitmore in a family farm building in Bristol, England. The first beer was Butcombe bitter, still brewed today and known a Butcombe Original.

The brewery expanded twice under Simon, once in the eighties and once in the nineties. Both expansions saw an increase in the breweries capacity.

In 2003 Simon sold the brewery to Gu Newell, Paul Horsley and family friends. Although he stayed on as a consultant for three years.

In 2005 Butcombe moved to a new location just outside Bristol in Wrington. A deep bore hole was drilled so they could access the Mendip Spring for the brewing of their beer.

In 2015 the brewery was acquired by Liberation Group which merged two independent breweries. Today the brewery produces a mix of some traditional beers, as well as some more modern craft beers too.

On this page I will feature any Butcombe beers I get to try. The list will grow as I make my way through their range.
