Brauhaus Tegernsee is located in the town of Tegernsee in Bavaria, Germany. It is close to the shores of the picturesque lake Tegernsee.
The brewery is set in the North wing of Tegernsee Abbey which is the old Benedictine Monastery. And it was founded by founded in 1675 by Abbot Bernhard Wenzel. Although there are stories that brewing on the site dates back to the year 1000.
However those details are a little sketchy, but what is clear is the King of Bavaria Max I Joseph of the house of Wittelsbach did acquire the Monastery which included the brewery.
The brewery has remained in the Wittelsbach family ever since seeing it pass through five generations. It is now run by the Duchess of Bavaria Maria Anna Wittelsbach.
Any Tegernsee beers I get to try will feature on this page.
