Is A Pub Shed Ever Complete?

Add Character To A Pub Shed

Well, yes and no. Whether you have built a pub shed or a home bar in terms of the construction it is a yes. The same goes for the bar itself, seating and tables, bar stools, shelving, fridge and accessories like bar tools.

As for the decor, well this is never really finished, it is an ongoing process. But it is the best way to add character to a pub shed. You will always be on the look out for goodies to add to your bar. As will family and friends because you have given them a perfect niche for gifts to buy you.

And when I say decor, I don’t mean wall coverings or paint, I mean things you hang on the walls, as well as ornaments.

Pub Shed Wall Decor

The possibilities of what you can hang on your are pretty endless, there is just so much scope. That can include the ceiling too, why not hang items from the ceiling.

My pub shed is fairly new, so my walls are still quite bare, but the journey has begun and things are starting to be added.

Also the family and friends have started too with a few items already bought as gifts. But you don’t have to buy a load of stuff in one go, unless you want to of course. The fun part is acquiring items over time and seeing your bar develop.

A List Of Pub Shed Items

While my brain can’t think of every possibility, I have compiled a list of ideas to get your own creative juices flowing.

Lights

Although the main ceiling lights are part of the decor, as are any wall lights. There are other lights that can really add to the atmosphere of a bar.

  • String Lights: These can be hung one the wall around your bar.
  • LED Strip Lights: Either on the bar itself or around the walls, these look great. They can change colour and you can even sync them with music.
  • Fairy Lights: Similar to string lights but normally smaller, these are ideal to lace across the ceiling to create a star like experience.
  • Hexagon Lights: These are a group of small hexagon lights that you arrange in any pattern. It makes a great feature on the wall.
  • Projector Light: A projector that beams out light in different patterns and colours for a clam or party atmosphere.

There are so many types of lights you can create your own unique display from just one or a combination.

Mirrors

A mirror in a home bar can often be overlooked, but they can add another dimension. Making a space look bigger than it is, as well as reflecting light too.

Adding a mirror behind shelving to create more depth always looks good. Or how about a large mirror with you home bar name engraved in it.

Mirror wall tiles for half or the whole wall, this really creates a sense of space. Just bear in mind that mirrors are glass, so be careful where they are placed.

Having said that you can get mirror wall tiles that are not glass, this might be a safer option. However I am not sure how good they are, but worth looking at.

Wall Plaques

You can have a lot of fun collecting wall plaques for the bar. And they can be any type, they don’t have to be about bars or drink.

  • Vintage
  • Pop Art
  • Funny
  • Sports
  • Cocktail
  • Beer
  • Neon
  • Cars
  • Motorbikes

Vintage signs always look good, as do pop art. Obviously a sports themed bar will look great with sport themes signs.

If your in to cocktails there are signs with a list of recipes, and a neon sign will always look great. There are so many signs to choose from.

Memorabilia
Memorabilia For A Pub Shed

Collecting Memorabilia is a hobby in itself, but the pub shed or home bar can be the perfect place to display it.

In fact you can base your bar theme around your chosen collection. Whether that be music, sports or even pub memorabilia.

You will know what you like to collect and your bar will be all the better for it. I personally don’t actually collect anything based on one subject.

But it is okay to collect any type of memorabilia and mix it up. Here are a few more to think about.

  • Beer mats
  • Tickets
  • Business Cards
  • Labels
  • Money
  • Instruments
  • Cans & Bottles

I have started collecting beer mats, tickets from shows or places (I have Vatican and colosseum tickets I found from years ago) and business cards from bars and restaurants.

I also have a few drink related signs and a David Bowie concert sign. There are some beer cans and bottles I started to collect too, these will grace a shelf along one wall of the bar.

Although I do not have many of all these things yet, the collection will grow over time. That’s the fun part, watching your bar develop.

What Else Can I Put On A Bar Wall?

I think that is only limited by our own imagination, within reason of course. Here are a few more things to consider for the walls of your home bar or pub shed.

  • Dartboard: Functional and fun, but also looks good too.
  • Horse Brasses: These are a classic collectors item for a bar.
  • Clocks: You may not want to collect too many, but clocks are decorative too. I stay with just the one.
  • Maps: Whether you have one big map or several small ones, they can look great on a wall.
  • Photo: Create a photo wall with pictures of family and friends and places you have visited.
  • Snacks: You can’t forget a snack card, they look great on the wall and you can eat them.

All these things make for good decoration for any bar wall. Plus any kind of ornament displayed on shelving add to the whole look of a bar.

Final Thoughts

To add character to a pub shed there is plenty of stuff you can do to decorate your bar walls with, it may take a while but we will get there. Although like I said, I don’t think it will ever be complete as we see more and more things that we buy for our bars.

But whether you have a traditional pub style bar, or a modern bistro style bar, there are loads of things you can add to the walls.

The key is to create a space that reflects your personal or theme style and the atmosphere you want to achieve.

If you have any ideas I have not included, then do share your thoughts below to give others inspiration. The main thing is while you are kitting out your bar is to have fun.
