The Welsh Cockney Pub Shed is now over 2 years old, so I thought I would share with you a little update of how it has developed in the last year.
It has been a fun 2 years since the pub shed was completed and it is surprising how it develops as time goes on. I don’t think it will ever be completely finished because there is always something new to add or renew or change.
So here is what we have change or added in the 2 last years.

Quick Background
So the ground work for the pub shed was done during late April and early May 2023. This consisted of digging out the ground and laying a gravel grid to form the base for the building to sit on.
The cabin was delivered on the 18th May 2023, it was placed on my driveway on a large pallet. I transferred all of it piece by piece to the back garden straight after delivery.
The following day I began to build it from the ground up, which was very straight forward and only took me around 3 hours to get the build to roof level.
The following day I fitted the roof timber and rubber roof covering with the help of my son Joe.
The First Year

During the first year I built the L-shaped bar, which was made from pallets. Built a back bar made from scrap wood and built a deck area outside the front of the building.
A local electrician installed the electrics, which included a decent amount of socket behind the bar and around the building, as well as lighting, including an outside light too.
Pretty early on I treated the outside of the cabin with some decent wood treatment to protect it.
I bought and installed a WIFI router to get a decent internet connection.
The dart board went up, as well as many wall plaques, pictures and the start of our beer mat collection. The bar was stocked with various spirits and a small Husky fridge filled with beer.
I purchased a sign with Welsh Cockney on it and put that outside above the doors. My son and I built an L-shaped bench seat to fit the opposite end to the bar. I had upholstery made for that bench seat.
We started getting our guests to sign the doors and hunt down beer mats for us. We also started adding business cards from restaurants or other places we visit such as a brewery, and concert tickets etc to one wall.
I bought a second hand fridge and converted it into a fermentation unit so I could brew beer and keep it at the right temperature while fermenting. Also I bought a beer engine and beer line and set up my own beer draught system.
We also started our beer can and bottle collection. I built shelves around the building and we display beer cans and bottles. However we are running out of space fast.
We have also started add money notes from around the world on to one of the ceiling beams.
I bought a tablet which I connected to a set of speakers which now works as a great sound system. Also I bought a set of led lights which I fitted around the front of the bar. The run the whole length of the top of the bar just under the bar top.
I purchased a small ice machine which comes in very handing when you have a group of friends coming to the pub shed.
Different things were added throughout the first year and the whole thing was starting to take shape.
The Second Year
By the time of the second year anniversary in May 2025 the pub shed looked like a small pub, which I guess is the idea.
Probably the biggest thing added in the second year and most expensive is the TV and wall mount bracket. So now I get to watch the sport I want in the pub shed.
We gained more signatures on the doors and our friends have been amazing in helping us grow our beer mat collection. Some even bringing us beers to review from their travels.
I purchased and fitted a light above the dartboard which does make a difference, not that has improved my game.
A new long bar runner from a brewery visit to Adnams brewery as well as some Adnams beer mats for our collection.
I purchased a can crusher which makes a big difference to the recycling. It is amazing how many more cans you can fit in a recycling bag once they are crushed.
We have replaced and added more beer cans and bottles, but are now pretty much full unless I build more shelves.
Our collection of foreign currency notes is growing too, as well as our business cards and concert tickets.
I purchased and fitted blinds to the two windows which look good and work well. There is probably a whole lot more we have added in the second year, but some stuff you just forget.
Going Forward

So going forward what else do I plan to add to the pub shed. Well there is nothing we really need to add, but that won’t stop us.
Little things I have got planned for the Welsh Cockneys third year are new bar stalls because I am not happy with how our current ones are wearing.
The second thing I plan to add is some fairy lights which I will fix around the ceiling and along the ceiling beams.
We will of course continue to add to our beer mat, foreign currency and places we have visited collections.
I may invest in a new dartboard as the one we have has seen better days, it is around 20 years old.
Other than that there are no other plans, but I am sure things and ideas will materialise as time goes on.
Is A Pub Shed Worth It?
Hell Yea.
It may not be for everyone, but we have thoroughly enjoyed our pub shed over the last 2+ years. It has proven a perfect place to entertain family and friends.
If we are going out with a group of friends the Welsh Cockney is where we meet up for a drink first, many times staying put instead of going out.
Whether it is spring, summer, autumn or winter the pub shed is a great place to chill out or enjoy the company of family or friends.
It is also the place where we film our beer reviews and other videos. So for us it has been well worth the investment and Lou and I will continue to enjoy it.
Cheers!
